SOUTH EAST QLD MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS

After the unfortunate cancellation of the 2020 Pan Pacific Masters Games due to the Covid-19 Pandemic restrictions, a new regional tournament for Masters Football has been established to fill the void.

The South East Queensland Masters Football Championships will provide many teams and players an opportunity to compete and succeed in what will be a fantastic and top level Master’s soccer championship event.

Open to all teams who can make the trip to the Gold Coast in November (Open also to interstate and international teams should current Covid-19 border restrictions be suitably eased ahead of the event) — eligible teams are welcome to enter in various age classifications, to compete in an event that’s sure to rival any in Australia.

MEN’S DIVISIONS
35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, 60+, 65+
WOMEN’S DIVISIONS
30+, 35+, 40+, 45+
Built on the proven success of Nerang Soccer Club’s event acumen and foundations, the 2020 inaugural South East Queensland Masters Football Championships will bring all the excitement and challenge to the fields of Nerang Soccer Club’s Glennon Park yet again.

All games will be played from 4:00pm daily into the evening and under lights, this allows for both cooler conditions and flexibility for players with work commitments
Due to ongoing border restrictions, this tournament is OPEN to all teams from Queensland, and teams from within the current QLD/NSW Border Bubble zone.

Golden Oldies Football will be playing alongside the 19th Golden Oldies World Hockey Festival and Golden Oldies Squash.

Golden Oldies is built on the foundation of Fun, Friendship and Fraternity, anyone is welcome no matter their skill, ability or gender. The most important thing is that you enjoy a cold refreshment, good food and friendly banter in the bar at the end of the day.

Friendship is key to Golden Oldies. Participants can vouch for the relationships with many returning every two years to catch up with old friends and play their sport on great facilities, in attractive destinations and amongst friendly international teams and supporters. The Celebration offers a fantastic opportunity to meet with Golden Oldies Footballers and to build friendships with people from all over the world – and it is only a short trip across the Tasman.

Games will be played at the magnificent Hagley Park, a 164.637hec stunning park in the central city, and will be situated walking distance from the Celebration Hub where like-minded sporting enthusiasts can enjoy good food, excellent beverages and importantly, good company.

If you have been to Christchurch before, we encourage you to come back and see the city’s transformation, and for those who haven’t travelled to Christchurch before, what better reason to visit to worlds newest city? Local football clubs, teams and supporters are ready and able to offer a warm welcome to all visitors.

You will be welcomed to Christchurch for a fantastic week of social events, football and camaraderie. The programme for the week includes a street parade for participants, an elaborate Welcome Party, four days of play, a chance for relaxation and recovery at the mid-week Picnic Day in the alpine village of Hanmer Springs and a significant Finale Dinner and Awards Evening – all included your Festival Package.

Hi Masters

WORLD MASTERS GAMES-AUCKLAND 2017

If you’re planning a visit home anytime soon or want to visit NZ, make it April 2017.
This is when the World Masters Games kick off in Auckland, with more than 25,000 athletes from all over the world expected to take part.
The focus of the event is on amateur participation, so you might want to consider taking part yourself.

WMG2017 Chief Executive Jennah Wootten says the Games always attract a wide variety of competitors from Olympic stars to social teams out for some fun.
However the diversity of participants who have signed up so far, along with the immediate international support for the Games, has humbled organisers.

“Auckland will be the place to be in April 2017, with competition happening at 45+ venues right across the region during the 10-day festival,” Ms Wootten says.

“We already have more than 50 countries involved and competitors range in age from a 25-year-old Australian swimmer to a 95-year-old swimmer from the United States.”

“Many of the participants have shared with us amazing stories of overcoming adversity and using masters sport to recover from life threatening illnesses and personal setbacks.
That’s not only inspiring but it reflects the spirit of sport which the Games embody,” she says.

In supporting the Olympic Games ethos of ‘sport for all’, the goal of the World Masters Games is to encourage participation in sport throughout life.
Competition and camaraderie are equally celebrated.

“We are targeting 25,000 athletes from 100 countries and have already received registrations from as far afield as Australia, Iceland, Malawi, Japan, Poland, Spain, China, Italy and Indonesia,” Ms Wootten says.
